Money in Leonida’s story mode

Money is a gate this time: at points the story simply won’t move until you’ve raised a certain amount. The earners Rockstar showed are boosting and selling cars, holding up businesses, robbing stores, and bank heists — with Raul Bautista, a seasoned bank robber who recruits crews, as the story-side face of the last one.

What’s actually confirmed

Where the money actually lives

From press previews

Money sits in three separate places, and each one behaves differently. The balance in your bank account is the boring, safe layer. Cash in your pockets is not: die with it on you and it’s gone for good. The third layer changes the texture of crime entirely — jewellery, drugs and stolen goods stuffed into duffel bags, none of which turns into spendable money on its own. Each fence deals in his own merchandise: the jewellery contact won’t touch a car, and the chop shop has no use for a necklace.

That single split gives every score a second act. The job isn’t over when you’re out of the building — it’s over when the goods are sold, and the drive to the buyer happens with everything still on you. It also answers the complaint that hung over late GTA 5, where a finished campaign left you a millionaire with a golf club and nothing to spend on: here the garages, the registrations, the salons and the wardrobes are all waiting for that money.

Robbery as a system, not a mission marker

From press previews

The scripted heist is only the top of the ladder. Any store can be robbed, not just the ones the map bothers to mark, and even a corner-shop job has moving parts: cameras to deal with, a back door that offers a quieter way in, a safe behind the counter, and a clerk who may decide today is the day he fights back. Safe combinations can be found on site — or squeezed out of a contact before you ever walk in.

Targets scale from convenience stores up to banks and full criminal compounds, with armoured trucks in the middle as steady repeatable income between story beats. The biggest scores don’t announce themselves on the map at all: you hear about them the way a criminal would, through tips, contacts and overheard conversations. It rewards living in the world instead of fast-travelling past it.

Boosting cars for money

Stealing cars is a system of its own. Vehicles are tiered, and the expensive ones are harder to get into. The WAINK phone app scans a parked car for what it’s worth, what registering it costs, whether it’s locked or alarmed, and whether it carries a tracker. Older cars open quietly with a slim jim; prestige models need a key cloner you won’t have until later in the story. Some cars call the police if you drive them too slowly, so keep the speed up or dump it. Deliver one scratched and the fence pays less — harder than it sounds on streets this crowded. And anyone sitting in a driver’s seat can still be pulled out the old-fashioned way.

FAQ

What’s the fastest way to make money in GTA 6’s story?
Boosting cars and selling them to a fence is the most repeatable earner, with store hold-ups and bank heists paying more per job. Story missions remain the reliable baseline, as in every prior GTA.

Will GTA 6 have a stock market like GTA V?
Not shown. It’s a reasonable guess given the series’ history, but Rockstar hasn’t described one.

Is Raul Bautista a heist character?
Yes — Rockstar describes him as a seasoned bank robber who recruits crews, and bank heists are among the money sources shown.
