GTA 6 weighs 210 GB on PS5, more than GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 put together

AlexBy Alex · Published

For a year everyone guessed 150 to 200 GB. The first real number beat the top of the range.

GTA 6 has a size: 210 GB on PS5. The figure was published on October 27 by PlayStationSize, an X account that tracks download sizes from Sony’s servers, and it’s bigger than GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 put together. Preload opens on November 12, a week before launch, so there are two weeks left to make room.

GTA 6 size in short

What Details
PS5 210 GB, figure from Sony’s servers, not yet on the store page
Xbox Series X/S No size published yet
Preload November 12, 2026, confirmed by Rockstar
Release November 19, 2026
512 GB Series S About 364 GB free out of the box

Why 210 GB is a lot

For comparison: GTA V takes about 87 GB on PS5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 launched at just over 100 GB. Add them up and you’re still short of GTA 6. For a year the estimates in the press and on our own storage page sat between 150 and 200 GB. The first real number went past the top of that range.

As a technical artist I’m not surprised. Most of the weight in a modern open world isn’t code, it’s textures, animation and audio. Leonida is a whole state at a level of detail Rockstar has never shipped before, with dense cities, swamps, beaches and interiors, plus 34 tracks of an original album and hours of radio talk. Every material on every surface needs several texture maps, and every one of them at high resolution. 210 GB is the price of that look.

The Xbox Series S problem

The tightest case is the 512 GB Xbox Series S. Out of the box, with a clean system, the owner has only about 364 GB free. If GTA 6 takes anywhere close to the PS5 figure on Xbox, it will eat more than half of that space, and in practice you’ll have to delete most of your other games to install it. There’s one bit of hope: Series S builds usually ship with lower-resolution assets, and installs on the S tend to come out smaller than on the Series X. But Rockstar hasn’t named the Xbox size, and the store page will only show it once preload opens. If you’re not sure your console will cope, our guide on which console to pick for GTA 6 compares every model.

What to do before November 12

Check your free space this week, not on preload night. On a 825 GB PS5 you have about 667 GB usable, and GTA 6 will take almost a third of it. If you need to delete something, delete it now, and keep a little extra room: a day-one patch on top of the preload is normal for Rockstar. Physical copies are a download code in a box, so they need exactly the same space as a digital copy.

FAQ

Is the 210 GB GTA 6 size official?
Not yet. The figure comes from PlayStationSize, an account that reads sizes from Sony’s servers, and it applies to the PS5 version. The store page will show the exact size when preload opens on November 12.

Will GTA 6 fit on a 512 GB Xbox Series S?
Probably, but barely. The console has about 364 GB free out of the box, and if the Xbox install is close to the PS5’s 210 GB, you’ll have to delete most other games.

Is GTA 6 bigger than GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2?
Yes. GTA V takes about 87 GB on PS5 and RDR2 launched at just over 100 GB; together they’re still smaller than GTA 6’s 210 GB.
