Twitch's CEO says GTA 6 Online arrives in 2027, after spending 'a lot of time' with Rockstar

By Alex · Published

Rockstar still hasn't said the word 'Online' out loud. So the CEO of Twitch went on Bloomberg and said it for them: next year.

Rockstar has announced exactly nothing about GTA 6’s multiplayer. No mode name, no screenshots, not one word in two trailers and a showcase. Which is why my eyebrows went up when Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, talking to Bloomberg this week, casually placed GTA 6 Online in 2027 — about a year after the game itself.

The interesting part isn’t the date, it’s where he says it comes from. Clancy said Twitch has “spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans,” including how the game can work with streamers and creators. That’s not a leaker reading tea leaves; that’s the head of the biggest streaming platform describing meetings he sat in. He still might be wrong about the year — expectations from talks are not a press release, and Rockstar has confirmed none of it. But as second-hand sources go, this one has an unusually good seat.

Now, remember how this went last time. GTA 5 came out on September 17, 2013, and GTA Online switched on October 1 — two weeks later, and it promptly fell over under the load. A full year of single-player-only GTA 6 would be the opposite philosophy: everyone plays Jason and Lucia’s story with nothing pulling them into lobbies, and the multiplayer arrives once the dust settles. As someone who mostly plays these games for the campaign, I’ll take that trade happily.

And if you’re the other kind of player — the one who spent thirteen years in GTA Online — the math still works for you: the mode that ran longer than some studios exist isn’t being rushed this time. What we actually know about GTA 6’s multiplayer, rumor by rumor, is collected on our GTA Online page. The countdown to November 19 doesn’t care either way.
