It’s a small post, but it comes from someone who is actually in GTA 6: Rockstar has already confirmed her as one of the hosts of Back Country Radio.

The track she picked
RHYNO was one of the first six singles from the album, released on September 17 together with Yung Lean’s That’s It, Morgan Wallen’s Last Thing You Need and Keith Richards’ Bright Lights, Big City. It’s produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, one half of Daft Punk. When the single dropped, Travis Scott announced it on his own Instagram with “RHYNO OUT, GTA SOON”. The whole album, with 34 tracks recorded for the world of Vice City, comes out on the same day as the game; the full list of confirmed singles and the vinyl editions are on our soundtrack page.
There’s a nice twist here. Lana doesn’t host a hip-hop station: RHYNO would play on a completely different part of the dial, and her own station is country.
Where you’ll hear her in the game
On October 8 Rockstar revealed the first six radio stations, and Back Country Radio was one of them. It plays what Rockstar calls “renegade” country and is hosted by MW and Delta Dawne, played by Morgan Wallen and Lana Del Rey. The third voice is Mud Dog Mike, the station’s roving reporter and swamp weatherman, who checks in from an airboat. He’s played by Jeremy Dufrene, Lana’s husband, who runs airboat tours in Louisiana in real life. The station broadcasts to the swamp country of Grassrivers and to Port Gellhorn.
Earlier this autumn Lana posted Yung Lean’s That’s It in her stories, and fans read it as a hint that she’d be on the album. The answer turned out to be radio, which suits her better: a DJ talks to you for the whole game, and a single plays for three minutes.
Why I like this
Rockstar has always cast musicians as DJs: in GTA 5 Cara Delevingne and Soulwax hosted stations. But I don’t remember one of them publicly counting down to the game a few weeks before launch, and with a track from another station. It’s a good sign about the mood around GTA 6 among the people who made it. For me the swamp station with an airboat reporter is the most Leonida thing Rockstar has shown about the radio: it’s built for driving the back roads at sunset, far from the neon of Vice City.
