Grassrivers is GTA VI’s Everglades — the vast subtropical wetland that covers the southern tip of real Florida. Here it is a primordial spread of swamp, marsh and flooded sawgrass that Rockstar’s own material crowns “the untameable jewel of Leonida’s crown.” It’s the wild counterweight to Vice City’s neon: a region you cross by airboat, share with alligators, and disappear into when the coast gets too warm.

What’s confirmed

Official screenshots and trailer footage establish the region’s whole vocabulary: airboats cutting through mangrove channels — the narrow saltwater creeks that wind between mangroves, the coastal trees that grow straight out of the water — with three models already identifiable (the Panther, the Airboat 09 and the Diamondback), armed men sharing frame with gators, stilt settlements out on the water, and police pursuits through the marsh, helicopter overhead. Alligators aren’t background — footage shows them as an active environmental hazard.

The wetlands also border Ambrosia’s cane fields, tying the swamp into the state’s agricultural interior — and into the contraband that moves through it unseen.

Why it matters for gameplay

As the footage shows, the developers have gone out of their way to capture the region’s unusual atmosphere: shallow water only airboats can cross, dense cover far from law enforcement, and a border position between the coast and the interior. In every previous GTA the swamp was scenery; Grassrivers is drawn like a place the story actually spends time in.

What we expect from the region

We expect the player to find activities built around the region’s geography. Alligators are confirmed hostile, and hunting and fishing are already announced for Mount Kalaga — we can expect similar activities out in the wetlands. Three airboat models have been shown; three variants of one vehicle usually means racing somewhere. The open question is how far police authority reaches: a marsh pursuit with a helicopter is in the footage, yet Rockstar itself describes the stilt villages as sitting far from the law. Trailer 2 also includes shots of a military helicopter working low over open water — it’s easy to picture a swamp chase mission built around them.

You can explore the location’s geography and surroundings on our interactive map.
