On October 8 Rockstar opened the Grand Theft Auto VI Collection in the Rockstar Store, its official merch line for the game. It’s tees, caps, two canvas totes, a keychain, a Zippo, a money clip and a sticker pack, all in the pink, blue and black of the VI logo. Rockstar says on its Newswire that this isn’t the whole collection and that more will be added over time.
What’s in the collection
The prices below are from the Australian version of the store, the one in the screenshot going around, so they’re in Australian dollars. Other regions have their own prices.
| Item | Price (AUD) | Status |
|---|---|---|
| GTA VI logo tees: black, blue, pink | A$43.95 | New |
| Rockstar Games logo tees: pink, black | A$43.95 | New |
| Macca the Gator tee (white), Goodtime State tee (pink) | A$43.95 | New |
| GTA VI and Rockstar baseball caps, six colour pairs | A$43.95 | Coming soon |
| GTA VI canvas totes, pink and blue | A$59.95 | New |
| Vice City Zippo lighter | A$58.95 | New |
| Vice City money clip | A$36.95 | New |
| GTA VI keychain | A$21.95 | New |
| GTA VI and Rockstar Games sticker collection | A$14.95 | New |
The same Gear page also lists the GTA VI album on CD and vinyl as “coming soon”, and the $399.99 Goodtime State box. Items that sell out can be added to a wishlist and wait for a restock, as Insider Gaming points out.
What the API leak got right
On September 24 fans found a list of unannounced products in the store’s public API, and I wrote it up with a warning that an API entry is not a promise. Two weeks later a good part of that list is on sale:
- the tees in blue, pink and black and the caps in the same colour pairs are there;
- so are the Zippo, the money clip, the keychain and the stickers;
- the Burger Shot, Narcos and Keyline tees, the Burger Shot lunch bag and the basketball aren’t in this drop.
That last group isn’t cancelled. Rockstar says more is coming, and in-game brands are exactly what you’d hold back for launch week.
The keychain I already knew
The keychain is the one item I recognised straight away. It’s the same piece Rockstar put into the boxes it sent to creators: chrome, a laser-etched R* on one side and the VI logo with palm trees on the other. In the photos from those boxes it sat in a black gift box, and now anyone can order it for A$21.95.
As a tech artist I like how little of this collection is a logo slapped on a shirt. The Macca the Gator tee is the print Jason wears in the game, the totes use the VI logo with the palm trees cut into it, and the colour pairs are lifted straight from the key art. It reads less like a game’s merch shop and more like the gift shop of a place that exists.
Pink cap, VI tee, a keychain on your keys: on November 19 you’ll be able to walk into Vice City already dressed for it.
