Milton from Office Space, Bill Dauterive from King of the Hill, Fuches from Barry — that voice is hard to miss, and fans pinned it to the boat-yard smuggler the moment An Extended Look dropped. Now it’s official from the source: in an AP News interview, Stephen Root confirmed he plays Brian Heder in GTA 6.
That makes him the first actor to openly claim a role in the game. Rockstar keeps its casts sealed until launch — with GTA 5 and RDR2, names surfaced through the credits after release, and the actors kept quiet for years before that. Here the studio has said nothing, and the actor just went ahead and told everyone.
Heder himself is one of my favourite characters on the roster so far: a veteran of what Rockstar calls the golden age of smuggling in the Keys, running a boat yard with his third wife and renting Jason a place in exchange for odd jobs. The full file on him is in the wiki. And the casting is perfect. Root has spent thirty years playing exactly this kind of man: funny, a little sad, and more dangerous than he looks.
In November, Jason will walk into that boat yard, and Bill Dauterive’s voice will hand him a smuggling run. I can already hear it, and honestly, I can’t wait.
