Sony finally did the obvious thing, and I’m glad they did: GTA 6 gets its own DualSense. Two of them. The white one is Vice City at dawn — pale sand, pastel sky, the exact palette of the first trailer’s beach shots. The black one is the same city after dark, all neon and trouble. Both have an iridescent finish that shifts like a sunset sky, palm trees embossed into the grips, and the GTA VI logo sitting where your thumbs won’t wear it off.

Region Price
US $84.99
Europe €84.99
UK £74.99
Japan ¥12,480

Pre-orders opened September 10 at 10:00 local time. Release is November 19, 2026, same day as the game.

PlayStation Direct: Black Limited Edition (US) · White Limited Edition (US) · Black Limited Edition (UK). Still choosing the console itself? Which console to buy for GTA 6.

Black or white

This is the actual decision, and it’s less about taste than about logistics. The white edition sells at PlayStation Direct and at regular retailers, so if pre-orders sell out you’ll have more chances at restock. The black one is a PlayStation Direct exclusive in regions where Direct operates — one store, one queue. Elsewhere it goes to a few select retailers. On pre-order day that queue was real, and every Direct exclusive I can remember eventually showed up on scalper listings. If your heart is set on the night version, order early and from the official store; the markup crowd will be happy to sell you one later for twice the price.

I’d take the white one, and not for availability reasons. That dawn gradient is the single image that sold me on this game’s art direction back in Trailer 1, and I like the idea of holding it every evening.

What you’re actually buying

Under the paint it’s a standard DualSense: same haptics, same adaptive triggers, same battery. No extra buttons, no Edge-style back paddles. You’re paying about ten dollars over a regular pad for the artwork, which is exactly the honest way to look at it. Rockstar will use those haptics well — the trigger feel in a game built around cars and guns is where DualSense usually shines — but it will feel identical on a plain white pad.

One practical thought from someone who owns too many controllers: a second pad before a huge single-player launch is never a wasted purchase. Charge one, play on the other, and when a friend comes over to watch you’ll hand them something. It just usually isn’t this pretty.

The game’s own editions and pre-order bonuses are a separate story — that’s covered on the editions page. Next to the Vice City Collection box, the pad is the only piece of GTA 6 you can pre-order and actually hold in your hands, and I suspect that’s exactly why it exists.
