The full breakdown of the Game Informer issue is in my article.
Jason and Lucia are on a magazine cover again, a month after Dazed. This time it’s Game Informer: on September 25 the magazine announced that Grand Theft Auto VI fronts issue 382. The art was drawn by Rockstar for this cover. A pink convertible with bullet holes down the side, Jason with his pistol up, Lucia in a red bandana with a gun in her lap, and a pile of cash in the footwell. Vice City sits behind them at sunset.
The digital issue went live on September 29 with the 14-page cover story and 12 new screenshots, and Rockstar partnered with Game Informer to make it free for everyone in the GI app; you only need to install the app and sign up. Senior associate editor Marcus Stewart wrote it after talking to Rockstar’s lead designers.

Hurricanes first, because that’s the question I asked on Saturday. Leonida gets tropical storms and hurricanes. Storms are local, so you can stand in sunshine and watch one hit the coast in the distance, rain leaves puddles and wet surfaces behind, and the wind is a new system that moves hair, debris, water and swamp grass. How often the big storms come and what they do to a mission is still open. I’ve rewritten the weather page, which used to say Rockstar hadn’t said a word. I’m happy to be wrong about that one.
The animals come second: more than 170 species, over 60 kinds of birds, more than 30 land mammals, manatees, flamingos, pelicans and alligators by name, and animals sorted into Rare, Discoverable and Legendary. The wildlife page keeps the list. As a tech artist I’ll say one thing: iridescence, translucency and fur that gets wet and matted are the right things to spend a budget on.
The rest is about the world and the people in it. The map is roughly twice GTA V’s size and denser, in six regions: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. The six-star wanted level is back with a new Heat system, you can switch between Jason and Lucia almost any time, NPCs come in far more shapes, skin tones and tattoo styles, and the activity list runs from base jumping to mini golf.
Every topic, all twelve screenshots and the links to the articles with the details are in our breakdown of the Game Informer cover story. I keep going back to the deer by the creek.
