GTA 6’s Leonida is a fictional Florida, so everyone is asking the same thing: are there hurricanes? The short version: Rockstar has not confirmed any weather system details — no hurricanes, no dynamic flooding, no tornadoes. What official footage does show is exceptionally detailed atmospheric rendering: storm skies, rain, wind in the palms, and ocean simulation well beyond GTA V.

What Official Footage Actually Shows

Across both trailers and the screenshot library, Leonida’s atmosphere is doing serious work: heavy cloud systems rolling over the coast, rain-slicked streets, wind-bent palms, and open-water simulation with wakes and shoreline interaction. The fidelity jump over GTA V’s weather is obvious frame to frame — clearly a priority for the latest iteration of RAGE.

About that “flood” in Trailer 1: a widely shared frame shows water spread across a roadway and was read as proof of dynamic flooding. Look closer and the scene contains crashed water barrels near the wet patch, while the road further out is dry — the water is scene dressing, not a flood system.

The Hurricane Question

Leonida Keys — official Rockstar press art

The expectation rests on two legs of very different strength:

  1. Setting logic. Leonida is a stand-in for Florida — hurricane country. Rockstar built swamps and a Keys analogue; storm season would fit the setting perfectly. One storm even has a name already: Hurricane Roxy, whose damage marks the islands — the full story is on the Leonida Keys page.
  2. “Hurricane gameplay” videos — fake. Clips showing flooded streets, storm surge, and tornadoes over Vice City circulate on TikTok and YouTube. None comes from Rockstar; the visible artifacts are consistent with AI video generation. If Rockstar shows a hurricane, it will be in a trailer — not a vertical video with a siren soundtrack.

A realistic middle ground, if weather mechanics exist at all: scripted storm events or localized effects — flooded low areas, reduced visibility, slick handling — rather than a state-wide dynamic disaster simulation, which would have to touch traffic, missions, NPC routing, and police response all at once.

Could Weather Affect Driving?

Port Gellhorn — official Rockstar press art

Most likely, yes: official material already shows weight transfer, suspension behavior, and surface-dependent handling. Rain-slicked roads changing grip would be a natural extension.

Still Not Shown

Dynamic weather — a storm rolling in while you play — is the one piece Rockstar keeps back. An Extended Look put 27 minutes of gameplay on screen and left it unanswered; we’ll update this page as soon as it lands.

FAQ

Are there hurricanes in GTA 6?
Not confirmed. The setting makes them plausible and the question keeps coming up, but Rockstar has announced nothing. Viral “hurricane gameplay” clips are fake.

Is there dynamic flooding in GTA 6?
Not confirmed. The popular Trailer 1 “flood” frame is explained by crashed water barrels in the scene, not a flood system.

Does weather affect gameplay in GTA 6?
Unknown. Official footage confirms dramatically upgraded weather rendering; whether it changes driving, missions, or NPC behavior hasn’t been announced.

Will GTA 6 have tornadoes or natural disasters?
Nothing in official material shows or references them.
