Nothing on this page is official. Rockstar has announced GTA 6 only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The estimates below are derived from console hardware analysis and Rockstar’s previous PC ports.
First: Is There Even a PC Version?
Not yet. As of July 2026, no PC port exists or has been announced. Rockstar’s pattern, however, is consistent: GTA V took 19 months to reach PC, Red Dead Redemption 2 took 13. Applied to a November 2026 console launch, that lands a PC release somewhere between late 2027 and mid 2028.
Why the wait? Rockstar concentrates on console optimization first, then builds the PC version as a separate effort tuned for the chaos of real-world hardware — which is also why their PC ports tend to arrive polished rather than broken.
The Real Baseline: Console Hardware
There are no PC requirements because there is no PC version — but the consoles GTA 6 ships on tell you what the eventual PC specs will be reverse-engineered from. These are public hardware specs, not projections:
| Component | PS5 | Xbox Series X |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | 8-core AMD Zen 2, ~3.5 GHz | 8-core AMD Zen 2, ~3.8 GHz |
| GPU | RDNA 2, ~10.3 TFLOPS | RDNA 2, ~12.2 TFLOPS |
| Memory | 16 GB GDDR6 (shared) | 16 GB GDDR6 (shared) |
| Storage | NVMe SSD (~5.5 GB/s raw) | NVMe SSD (~2.4 GB/s raw) |
Practical translation for a future PC build: a Zen 2-class 8-core CPU (Ryzen 3700X era) and an RDNA 2-class GPU are the lower limit the game is engineered against — expect the real minimum specs to land near that and recommended specs well above it.
The extended look sharpened that baseline. Digital Foundry measured 1440p internal at 30 fps on a base PS5 — no dynamic resolution, no temporal upscaler, just a plain spatial upscale to 4K. So the console target is a real 1440p render, not a 1080p image stretched to fit. A PC chasing the same picture at 60 fps needs considerably more GPU headroom than an RDNA 2 console part, not the same.
Estimated Specifications
Our baseline: the PS5’s hardware profile (Zen 2 CPU, RDNA 2 GPU, fast NVMe streaming) translated to PC equivalents, adjusted upward for the OS overhead and the fact that the port will target 2028-era hardware.
| Minimum (1080p / 30fps) | Recommended (4K / 60fps) | |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit |
| CPU | Ryzen 5 3600 / Core i5-10600 | Ryzen 7 5800X / Core i7-12700K |
| RAM | 16 GB | 32 GB |
| GPU | RTX 2060 / RX 5700 | RTX 4070 / RX 7800 XT |
| VRAM | 6 GB | 12 GB |
| Storage | 150 GB SSD | 200 GB NVMe SSD |
Expect the usual modern PC feature set: DLSS/FSR upscaling, configurable ray tracing, uncapped framerates, ultrawide support, and an optional high-resolution texture pack.
Storage Reality Check
GTA V’s enhanced PC build occupies ~110 GB and RDR2 needs ~150 GB. GTA 6’s world is substantially larger with denser assets, so plan for 150+ GB base, growing past 200 GB with hi-res textures and post-launch updates. Asset streaming in the RAGE engine is built around fast storage — a SATA SSD is the bare minimum, NVMe is the sane choice.
Rockstar hasn’t announced the console install size either. Community estimates cluster around 150–180 GB, extrapolated from the week-long preload window and the size of recent Rockstar titles.
Should You Upgrade Now? Our Honest Take
No — not for GTA 6. This is the answer a spec table won’t give you: any GPU you buy today will be a full generation old before the PC port ships. If you’re building a PC anyway, spend where Rockstar ports have historically rewarded it:
- VRAM and storage headroom over raw clocks. Rockstar’s engines punish VRAM starvation more than slow shaders — 12 GB+ is the comfortable minimum.
- 32 GB RAM is the safe baseline for a 2028-era open world.
- Hold the GPU purchase. The card that will actually run GTA 6 well at 4K probably isn’t on sale yet — and the ones that are will be cheaper by then.
FAQ
How many GB is GTA 6?
Not announced. Estimates around 150–180 GB circulate, and the PC build will likely need more once hi-res textures and updates land.
Will GTA 6 need an SSD on PC?
Near-certain yes. Both launch consoles are built around NVMe SSDs, and the game’s streaming is engineered against that baseline — a hard drive almost certainly won’t be supported when the PC version eventually arrives.
What are the minimum PC requirements for GTA 6?
There are no official minimum requirements — Rockstar hasn’t announced a PC version. Our hardware estimate based on the PS5 profile is in the table above.
What are the recommended PC specs for GTA 6?
No official recommended specs exist either; the estimated 4K/60fps configuration in the table above is analysis, not Rockstar data.
