Character customization in GTA 6 runs deeper than any previous game in the series, and Rockstar said so through the editions before showing a single menu. The Ultimate Edition opens five stores that exist only for its owners: a streetwear shop, a hair and beauty salon, a tattoo parlour with more than fifty designs by the FAILE art collective, and two vehicle mod shops. The Vintage Vice City Pack adds 80s outfits and hairstyles for both leads. Then An Extended Look showed the system underneath, and it turned out to be bigger than a wardrobe: salons with their own signature styles, stores with exclusive items worth crossing town for, a mirror at home for trimming your own hair — and clothes that the police pay attention to.

Five stores that tell you how the system works
The Ultimate Edition describes each of its stores in the language of a real business, and that language was the first good look at customization in GTA 6.
Stock 305 is Stockyard’s destination for elevated streetwear, with looks for Jason and Lucia that match the murals and tags of the neighbourhood around it. A clothing store with its own district and its own dress code means outfits in GTA 6 belong to places, the way Ponsonbys and Binco did in Los Santos — only sharper.
Sara’s Unisex Salon covers hair, facial hair, makeup and nails for both leads. Nails and makeup are new territory for a mainline GTA, and the fact that Rockstar lists them at all says the character editor reaches past hats and jackets.
Electric Fang Tattoo, Stockyard’s ink bar, carries more than fifty signature tattoos designed by FAILE, the Brooklyn art collective. A real-world collaboration on body art is the kind of detail Rockstar usually saves for the radio, and it puts tattoos on the same footing as clothes.
Rideout Customs in Vice City gives ordinary cars detailed interiors, rims and donk builds — the tall-wheeled Florida style. One-Eyed Willie’s on Lake Leonida does the opposite job: off-road builds and hand-painted bodywork for the swamps and trails. Two mod shops with different specialities suggest vehicle customization split by culture, not just by part list; the cars themselves are on the vehicles page.
Rockstar also mentions apparel lines outside the stores: Goodtime Gear, merch from Leonida’s hit TV show starring Macca the Gator, and a Vice City Style collection. Edition content opens chapter by chapter as the story moves, so the wardrobe grows with the game rather than arriving in one pile.
The 80s outfits of the pre-order pack
The Vintage Vice City Pack gives Jason and Lucia retro outfits and hairstyles, plus a weapon pattern of tropical palms inspired by Tommy Vercetti’s shirt. It is free for any purchase before 20 November 2026, and it is the one customization set almost every player will own on day one, so for the first week half of Vice City will be walking around in 80s pastel.
What the trailers already show
Jason and Lucia change clothes more often across two trailers than most GTA protagonists did in a whole game: Lucia’s prison uniform, the motel scene, club looks in Vice City, Jason in work clothes on the roof and in a sleeveless top on the Keys, both of them dressed up for a night out. Every scene reads like a different wardrobe slot, and the trailers put the pair in tattoos and jewellery that the stores above are built to expand on. The characters themselves — and their looks — are on the pages for Jason and Lucia.
The base game, shown at last
The Standard Edition question is answered. Salons and clothing stores are ordinary businesses across Leonida, not an Ultimate perk — the five named shops are extra ranges on top of a system everyone gets. Each salon has its own signature hairstyles and each store its own exclusive items, which is Rockstar saying plainly that the drive across town is meant to be worth it. You take things off the shelves yourself, RDR2-style, rather than picking from a menu.
Some of it happens at home. You can trim your own hair and beard in the safehouse at any length, instantly, with no waiting for it to grow back the way RDR2 made you; a genuinely new style still means a trip to a barber.
And the body underneath changes too. The gym is a minigame — work the set and the muscle follows, visible on the character — while overeating adds weight and days without sleep show on the face. This is San Andreas coming back: the one feature fans wanted with no confirmation at all to go on turned out to have been built long before they asked.
Clothes are a police mechanic now
This is the part nobody predicted. What the police know about you sits as icons under the wanted stars: your face, your outfit, your car. Each one is a separate description, and each can be broken.
A mask put on before the crime and taken off on the way out means no description reaches them at all, security cameras included. If they already have your outfit, a hat and sunglasses will not do — it takes a full change of clothes, which is why a working car boot with a spare set in it is now an escape tool rather than a detail. And a new haircut clears the description of your face.
Customization stopped being decoration the moment it started deleting evidence.
