GTA 6 is set in the State of Leonida — Rockstar’s fictional version of Florida — with Vice City as its stand-in for Miami. This page is about the map itself: how much of it there is, which real place each region is built on, and what got left out. A tour of what each region actually contains is in the regions overview; which names are official and which are fan-drawn is sorted out in confirmed locations.

The map legend: six regions, six real places

Region Built on
Vice City — official Rockstar press art Vice City Miami
Leonida Keys — official Rockstar press art Leonida Keys The Florida Keys
Grassrivers — official Rockstar press art Grassrivers The Everglades
Port Gellhorn — official Rockstar press art Port Gellhorn The Panhandle (community reading, not stated)
Mount Kalaga National Park — official Rockstar press art Mount Kalaga North Florida high country
Ambrosia — official Rockstar press art Ambrosia Inland agricultural Florida

Note the softest cell: the “Panhandle” label is the community’s reading of Port Gellhorn’s geography and vibe. Strictly speaking, Rockstar’s copy never types a real place name at all — not “Miami,” not “Florida” — but for the first three rows the imagery leaves nothing to argue about. How firm each correspondence is, tier by tier, is broken down on the State of Leonida page.

What real Florida did not make it in

Real Florida is about 170,000 km²; no game ships that. Leonida is a curated Florida — Rockstar picked the six landscapes that give the most gameplay contrast and stitched them into one continuous state. Recognizable Florida things that are missing (Orlando’s theme parks, Tampa, Jacksonville) simply are not part of Leonida as revealed so far, and the six regions are connected with no loading screens between them.

How big is the map?

Rockstar has published no official figure. Community analysis of trailer geography estimates roughly 125 km² of landmass — about 2.6x GTA V’s land.

Estimate — no official number exists

We will update this page with real numbers the moment Rockstar publishes them. An Extended Look ran 27 minutes without naming a figure — the closest thing to an official size statement is Rob Nelson calling it a very big map.

Rockstar has given one comparison of its own, and it points at a different game: Rob Nelson describes Leonida as three times the size of the Red Dead Redemption 2 map — which works out at roughly twice GTA 5’s. That lands at the low end of the community range above, and for a good reason: it measures against GTA 5’s total area, water included, while the 2.6x figure compares land to land.

FAQ

How big is the GTA 6 map?
Rockstar has not published a figure. Community analysis of the trailers estimates roughly 125 km² of landmass — about 2.6 times GTA V’s 48 km² of land.

Is GTA 6 based on Florida?
Yes. The State of Leonida is a fictional Florida, and Vice City is its Miami. It is inspired by the real state rather than a recreation of it — the geography is compressed and reshaped for gameplay.

Is all of Florida in the game?
No. Leonida covers six curated regions, not the whole state. Real Florida cities such as Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville are not part of the confirmed map.

Which real place is each GTA 6 region based on?
Vice City is Miami, the Leonida Keys are the Florida Keys, and Grassrivers is the Everglades — unmistakable on screen, though Rockstar never writes the real names. Mount Kalaga matches North Florida high country and Ambrosia the state’s agricultural interior, while Port Gellhorn’s Panhandle label comes from the community.

Are there loading screens between regions?
None are expected — the six regions are described as one continuous state.
