GTA 6 Languages and Dubbing

Thirteen languages, one voice. That’s the whole story of GTA 6 localization, and you can read it straight off the game’s store page: interface and subtitles in 13 languages, voice acting in English only. Strauss Zelnick repeated the same list at Take-Two’s September shareholder meeting, so this is as settled as pre-release facts get.

The full set: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Mexico), Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese.

Why nobody gets a dub

Rockstar has never dubbed a mainline GTA. Not San Andreas, not GTA V, and Red Dead Redemption 2 didn’t get a dub either. The usual explanation is the one I believe as someone who works next to animators: the performances are the game. Lucia and Jason were shot with full performance capture — face, body and voice recorded together — and replacing the audio track would throw away half of what the actors did. When an eyebrow, a pause and a line land as one take, you subtitle it, you don’t paint over it.

So when you hear Lucia in the trailers, that’s how the whole world hears her. The subtitles are where your language lives.

The list is GTA V’s list

Put the two games side by side and the sets match. The only visible change: what GTA V called “Spanish (Latin America)” is now “Spanish (Mexico)” — a rename, and a fitting one for a game starring Lucia Caminos. Nothing was dropped, nothing was added.

That last part stings if your language isn’t on the list. No Turkish, no Arabic, no Ukrainian, no Hindi. Turkish players have been collecting petitions for years, GTA V’s fan-translation scene is enormous, and Rockstar’s answer for GTA 6 is silence. On consoles there’s no mod folder to fix it, so you’re choosing among the thirteen, English included. I keep hoping post-launch patches surprise us — publishers do sometimes add languages after release — but nothing points that way today.

Setting it up

Consoles keep it simple: Rockstar games take the system language. PS5 or Xbox set to Polish means GTA 6 greets you in Polish. If you play with English voices and, say, Japanese subtitles — which is exactly how it will work — give the subtitles a size check in the settings on day one. Rockstar’s default subtitles have been on the small side for as long as I can remember, and Vice City at night deserves your eyes on the neon, not squinting at the bottom of the screen.

Thirteen languages, one Leonida, one Lucia. However you read her lines, we’re all hearing the same voice on November 19.

FAQ

Will GTA 6 have dubbing in my language?
No. All voices are English. The other twelve languages get menus and subtitles. Rockstar has never dubbed a mainline GTA, and GTA 6 keeps that tradition.

What languages does GTA 6 support?
English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Mexico), Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese — for interface and subtitles.

How do I change the language in GTA 6?
On consoles Rockstar games traditionally follow the system language. Set your PS5 or Xbox to the language you want and the game picks it up.
